Community Projects at Island Vibe JBay

Madiba Bay Crèche

We have recently adopted this school as one of our main projects.

Background: creche.jpg

• The school has 2 permanently employed care givers who are very dedicated but lack resources such as age specific teaching aides. The volunteer will therefore be expected to assist in a very creative manner making use of the most basic equipment to fulfil the daily program objectives.
• There is also an opportunity to establish a link with an established Montessori school in town and to use ideas, themes etc from this school. Also to bring the schools together by having outings to each others schools or going to the beach together.

Activities

Education for 40 children aged 3 to 5.

Daily program:

- Arrival and playtime
- Bible
- reading
Breakfast (porridge which is provided by the parents)
- Wash-up time (teeth, toilet)
- Music
- Creativity
- Tidy-up
- Snack/lunch
- Playtime (outside)
  Story-time
- Resting

Plans (short-term / long-term)

Since the group is quite large and the ages differ, the plan is to split up and create two groups. One for 3 years-old and one for 4 and 5 years.

Surf School Project surf.jpg

Joining the Jefrreys Bay surf school you will be able to improve your own skills in the water as well as teach local kids to surf.

Your First week you will join the local surf school in Jeffreys Bay to get an idea of what it entails to teach surfing. The surf school runs during the week, the weekends can be used to explore, relax on the beach or explore all the surf and other shops.

The mornings will consist of helping with surf lessons on the main beach with beginners and community kids.

During the afternoons you will be working in the community on a selection of upliftment projects and surfing with the local children. surf2.jpg

General Community Projects paint.jpg

In combination with all these projects there is the opportunity to be involved in general community upliftment projects in the afternoons.

Some of these projects can include visiting AIDS patients in their homes, painting houses and other projects according to the individual volunteers skills and interests.
