Things to do at Island Vibe Knysna

Introduction at Sundown

Everyone gets the introduction tour! Grab your camera, we’re heading to the Heads to learn a little of their history and to watch the sun depart for the day. Return to Island Vibe to enjoy an ice cold local beer or glass of wine and make a toast to another day in paradise.

Guided Forest Hike

Knysna is surrounded by many forest areas offering you all degrees of hiking excellence. Lose yourself to nature, look out for the rare Knysna Loerie, feel the freshness of ferns and overhanging greenery or simply enjoy the peace and quiet. This guided trip reveals the secrets and joys of plants, birds and other smaller animals. .

Canoe trip

Once again nature beckons you to explore her beauty. No better way than to paddle in one of the many water ways in the area. Knysna Lagoon particularly offers a host of viewing pleasures as well as a chance to flip overboard and cool off.  

Township tour

Knysna’s township is set on the hill above the town giving residents a bird’s eye view to the coastline. A visit to this area is not only breath taking but also gives you an intrinsic insight into the lives of South Africa’s previously disadvantaged population. On the way you will visit the school, a sangoma (African doctor) and the Rastafarian community.

Forest Picnic


This trip is for those who prefer driving to walking!! The trip allows two short strolls through parts of the forest and a leisurely picnic stop. It’s great for those days when you feel you should do something, but are not all that energetic.

“Chill on the Beach” Day

Beach in Knysna? You will be amazed. One of two destinations – Brenton-on-Sea which is a half hour trip to the coast, or simply the beach surrounding the lagoon near the Heads. Either way you’ll end up having so much fun. Bring your swimmers, sun block, book and camera – we’ll see to the rest. Includes a braai (BBQ), beach games and the chance to try out surfing.

Knysna Town Tour

A drive around town to point out the highlights – and to taste a bit of Knysna. Brewery, oysters and stroll through the African market.We always try to keep in mind the money situation of the backpacking traveler and so you will surely find a trip to suit your pocket. Ranging from R25 to R250 or so. There are loads of other interesting places too to which we organize transport or give you directions – Elephant parks, Monkeyland and Boat cruises on the lagoon to name but a few.

The Knysna Elephant Park is an excellent half day outing and allows you to see, touch and smell elephants really close up! Options include feeding, riding or walking these gentle giants.

Cruise on the Knysna Lagoon

This is a definite while in Knysna. Take to the water on any one of these spectacular cruises - Three Leg Tour, Sunset cruise on The John Ben or a ride on the elegant paddle cruiser – and listen to stories, history and interesting facts about the lagoon and in particular the Knysna Sea Horse.

Scuba Diving

“Discover Scuba” is the perfect introduction to the underwater world of diving. Hosts of different dive sites, including the Wreck of Paquita, boat dives beyond the Heads as well as within the lagoon. PADI affiliated.

Abseiling

The serene Kaaiman’s gorge holds one of the most beautiful abseil sites. You have a chance to do two 45m abseils next a magnificent waterfall. The first is an easy one, the second more technical but just as exhilarating. And to top it all off is this unconventional landing site – a canoe awaits you at the bottom!

Kloofing

Boulder hopping and swimming your way along narrow gorges which at times are only one metre wide and 80m deep is the name of this game. An abundance of waterfalls (four in total) gives you the added adrenalin rush of being lowered down through the falling water. Once down the first one, there’s no turning back! Once at the bottom, swim out from behind the waterfall.

Oysters

Wine and dine your way through a formidable array of fine restaurants, seafood taverns and pubs. Alfresco dining of Knysna’s finest – fresh oysters from the lagoon are served in a variety of styles. Spend an afternoon savoring these delights.

Paragliding

For fun and excitement this skyward adventure takes some beating. It’s easy to learn with beginners receiving thorough tutoring from professional guides. If not quite up to going it alone – do a tandem ride.

Sky diving

Tandem skydive over the most scenic drop zone in Africa - if not in the world. Very few experiences can beat the thrill of human flight. This is especially true for the duration of the freefall – a full 35 seconds of rush.
